The GMC regulation of Registered Physician Assistants (PAs) and Registered Anaesthesia Assistants (AAs)
The Anaesthesia Associates and Physician Associates Order 2024 enables the General Medical Council (GMC) to regulate two new registered professionals, namely registered anaesthesia assistants and registered physician assistants. The legislation empowers the GMC to take regulatory action against such registrants, including:
Referral of Concerns to an Interim Orders Tribunal
Issuing Warnings
Referring Concerns to a Fitness to Practise hearing
The legislation also governs several formal GMC procedural processes and appeal frameworks. The legislation also outlines the processes for internal appeals and reviews, as well as appeals to the courts from GMC decisions.
