General Medical Council Fitness to Practise Cases Digested
GMC/MPTS Hearing Decisions

The General Medical Council (GMC) has fitness to practise (FTP) and Interim Orders Tribunal (IOT) hearings going on most days of the week. Hearings are heard by the Medical Practitioners Tribunal Service (MPTS).

Members of the public who are interested in observing a hearing should contact the MPTS. Members of the public can obtain a transcript of hearings for a fee.

The GMC/MPTS publishes determinations on-line. The GMC/MPTS publishes only those elements of a doctor’s fitness to practise hearing that have been heard in public. Neither the public nor the press are entitled to see copies of the private hearing transcript or the privately delivered determination relating to the private elements of the FTP case. Where members of the public and the press are present at a hearing, they will be asked to leave the hearing room for the duration of the private session, where the panel agree to move into private.
