Barrister in General Medical Council Fitness to Practise LawPenny Maudsley is a highly experienced advocate in GMC / MPTS Fitness to Practise (FTP) & Interim Orders Tribunal (IOT) Law. Formerly a nurse and midwife Penny Maudsley left the National Health Service to become a barrister specialising in medical law. She has a Masters Degree in Medical Law and has represented many clinical practitioners in GMC and other regulatory proceedings. She also represents doctors who appeal GMC / MPTS decisions and doctors in GMC registration law and appeals.

Penny Maudsley of Counsel has enhanced her knowledge of medicine with the Advanced Diploma in Midwifery and an MA in Health Care Ethics and Law. Along with her many years in clinical practise and 13 years as a barrister she has considerable knowledge and experience to be able to assist doctors before the GMC.

Penny has been able to use her clinical experience as a healthcare professional to practise in healthcare regulatory law representing doctors before the General Medical Council. She has advised at all stages of the investigation and represented before the Interim Orders Tribunal (IOT), review hearings and Fitness to Practise Panel (FTP) hearings. Penny is experienced in handling complex lengthy cases acting as junior counsel to leading counsel or as leading counsel. She is also experienced in advising on appeals to the High Court, preparing grounds of appeal and skeleton arguments for the High Court and representing appellants on substantive appeals and appeals against immediate suspension orders.

Penny also has has significant experience in defending clients in criminal law cases in both the magistrates and crown courts.

Penny is happy to represent doctors before the GMC both Manchester and London. She will meet doctors in conference at their convenience to discuss their case and to prepare for the hearing. Penny has also represented other health care professionals before their respective regulatory bodies.
